Lusty Lust: White Wood Floors

Some of my fav pics to look at online lately have been houses with white wood floors. I'm assuming they're pretty impractical... but danggg are they pretty & cozy to look at. I tried to convince Peter the other day to let me paint our wood floors white in "JUST ONE ROOM!!". Yeah didn't work.. I suppose its all the better though since Benson likes to paint our floors with his muddy paw print artwork daily. He's so talented.
K so want to drool over some of these floors with me? Well here ya go - all the rustic, cottagey, dreamy white wood floors you could ask for! Enjoy!

Our Home: Bright & Cheery Guest Bathroom Redo!

Our guest bathroom also doubles as my bathroom.... and since peter has his own b-room which makes this one mine-all-miiine, that means I got to make it as girly and cheerful as I wanted! If you saw last weeks post on cute, inspirational bathrooms, you might have gotten the "my-bathroom-is-ugly-and-needs-to-be-spiced-up" bug as well! I also wanted to make it more "guesty" - adding nicer things that guests can use & appreciate while doing their biznessssss in our b-room.

Here was our bathroom when we moved in:

Poor little thing hadn't been touched or improved probably since it was constructed in 1961.

There was an in between (after we moved in - before this redo) but I can't find a pic right now..
Anyway, here she is now in all her colorful glory!

Shower curtain from West Elm & bath mat from West Elm, new fancy schmancy trash can from Target, hand towels from Anthro & Bed Bath & Beyond, and roman shade from BBB too.

Yellow shelves from Uptown Country, DIY "JOY" letters - will do a how-to later!, charcoal gray hand towel from Anthro ($8), soaps from Anthro, picture of P, Benson, & me taken by the lovely Katie Norris of KNPA, jars on shelves from a thrift store, other accessories from Uptown Country, framed paper from Paper Source ($2.50 per sheet)

Bar of soap from Fresh, Soap/Lotion combo from Anthro (bit of a splurge, but I love it)

slate tassel hand towel from West Elm ($9)

Milk glass vases & jars from thrift store, soap from the dollar tree (my love)

more framed paper from Paper Source, towel hook thingy from Marshall's I think - I'm pretty sure it was $5 on clearance!

So yes its bright & a tad spastic but it makes me feel all cheery and happy whenever I walk in, which is fab.. and quite impressive for a bathroom. :) Also it smells really good now cause of all the soaps, yay! Hope you like it!

john jealousy! bathrooms that inspire.

These johns (aka bathrooms) make me oh so happy & inspired... which is a little weird considering they are rooms for toilets, but what can ya do. Inspiration is inspiration & these cute bathrooms bring it big time. Tune in early next week when I post pics of our bathroom redo!

Hope you feel inspired! Have a great Thursday!

Our Home: Airing Our Dirty Laundry!

Yes thats right, today you get to see our dirty laundry.... I think Peter might kill me for this one!

So here's the situation regarding our new laundry baskets-
Before:
Peter's dirty clothes = in a hamper on the floor of our bedroom (quite annoying)
My dirty clothes = piled (usually way too high) in the bathroom cabinet you'll see below
After:
Both of our laundry = neatly organized in 3 baskets that all fit in one cabinet!

We typically each do our own laundry (I know, worst wife ever & best husband ever), so the system works perfectly for us. Whenever my colors basket gets full, I do my colors... same for Peter with his. Whenever the whites are full, whoever wants whites badly enough does the whites! Super easy & keeps us from letting our laundry get piled up for way too long.

I used little stickers from West Elm (found them on the clearance table!) & printed the labels on each sticker. Then I just used some clear packing tape to protect the stickers - a little ghetto but I knew I'd be thankful later.

Oh and the baskets are Sorting Hampers from The Container Store... They were $8 each and they clip together if you want them to. Looovely. Organized. Easier. Cuter. woohoo!

Our Home: Bathroom Cabinet Overhaul

The word overhaul may seem a little dramatic for a bathroom cabinet organizing session, but if you look at the picture below you will realize that this was quite a hefty job... For some reason when we moved in, I thought it would be a good idea to simply throw every bathroom-related item into my cabinet. Of course in the beginning I tried to neatly line things up, but clearly as time went by that went out the window.

Oh Louise blog,bathroom organizing

Ok I feel like I just exposed way too much of myself... don't judge me for my disgusting bathroom cabinet! Actually, its really bad. You can judge me a little..

Oh also, here are the old knobs on the cabinet.

Oh Louise blog,bathroom organizing

So when I finally decided the time had come to really get down to business with this horrible unorganized situation, I first hit up Big Lots & then Dollar King to see what types of storage options they had. There were decent options at both, but so expensive! I don't know why Dollar King even has dollar in their name, because everything I saw was at least $5... and when you have a lot to organize, that adds up quickly! Finally I went to Dollar Tree, and ah... sweet relief. Everything there is literally a dollar so I made it out of there with lots of stuff & didn't break the bank.
I also went to JoAnns and got a cheap pack of scrapbook paper that I decided would line the back of my cabinets... I knew the the things I bought at the Dollar Tree were all white & a tad boring so I thought a little color and pattern would brighten things up a tad!
After measuring, here I am getting my paper perfectly sized & stuck together for each shelf backside using my handy dandy glue lines (usually for scrapbooking - but they work like double stick tape only wayyy better).

Oh Louise blog,bathroom organizing

I used Elmers Spray-On Craft Adhesive... I bought the intense version & seriously... that stuff is crazy... just from spraying it in my cabinets, I had a thin coating of glue in my hair for a couple days. It was lovely.

Oh Louise blog,bathroom organizing

For each shelf I put towels down to cover up the parts of the shelf I did not want to cover with adhesive spray.. then I had my scrapbook-paper backing all ready to go and sprayed the back of the shelf... as quickly as I could I stuck the backing to the shelf.

And voila, a cheap and easy touch of pretty & color.

Then it was time to organize. I discovered with much joy when I got home with my new Dollar Tree finds that they could all be written on with dry erase markers. This was perfect for my bathroom cabinet organizing, because I know myself... and I know my first round of organizing is never perfect and might need a little tweaking at some point. See how easy? Write a label..

Oh Louise blog,bathroom organizing

Decide that label is lame...

Oh Louise blog,bathroom organizing

Oh the joy & freedom of not feeling the pressure to label with permanent markers. Simple pleasures people.

I also bought these 4 boxes at the Dollar Tree to organize all my medicine, bandages, vitamins...all that exciting stuff. I had it all shoved in one box (or scattered around my cabinet) before & it was just a big stressful mess & trying to find some Pepto was way harder than necessary...not anymore, woohoo! (and these are dry-erase friendly too!)

And here are the rest of the pics...

I got that little "silver" tray at the Dollar Tree too.
