Lusty Lust: Anthro Plates

I looove the home section at Anthropologie... such cute stuff that can easily add the creative touch a room needs. Last year I had a random urge to buy some of the cute Anthro dishes, but couldn't reallllly afford them...so I scoured the sale table and found some really great plates for bargain prices! Most of the ones in this picture below of our kitchen nook are from that lovely day...such an easy, unique, & colorful way to spruce up a room that needs a little help!

Come and Take It!

As you may know, my sister has started a fun little side business called Come and Take It!. She started by opening a shop on Etsy, but is now doing more custom pieces and is freelance writing about many of these projects for the Eagle newspaper in College Station.

Here's a blurb from Mollie on what she's up to:
Etsy serves well for national selling of my small pieces, but for larger furniture, I will use my blog to post pictures of the "before" and let you choose the after. Shipping will be limited to the Bryan/College Station area (or Dallas, when I come home) and pieces can be completely customized to your liking.

Here are a few of the projects she has featured on her blog... click each picture to see the full blog posts & more pictures!

Crafty DIY: Burlap Headboard

When moving into our house, we were definitely lacking some necessary "stuff" since we moved from a 1 bed/1 bath into a 3 bed/2 bath... so anything we could do that was cheap & easy was definitely our style. I got this idea for a DIY fabric headboard from Young House Love a while back, so although I didn't come up with it on my own, I do think its a great idea & think that it came out looking quite swell, so I felt I should share it. Click here for the full instructions from YHL.

My parents kitchen table was the perfect size for the project... and they have things I don't have like an ironing board. Don't judge..the floor works quite lovely for ironing. Anyhoo, here is my wooden frame all ready to go...purchased it at a local art store.

Now I have covered my frame with batting.

Yeah, im a pretty good stapler...

I bought burlap fabric from a craft store...I wanted something light to go on my green walls but that would coordinate with the bedding in the guest room.
Here's the oh-so-important ironing stage...no one wants a wrinkly headboard!

Now here's the DIY headboard in its happy little home!

Sprouty Initial Cards!

I've had these cards designed for a while but just now listed them on Etsy. I actually took them to the Spring Bash a few months ago and they sold very well! The print is just a mini-version of my sprouty design with a simple letter in a funky modern font in the color of your choice.
Fun fun!

Pottery Barn Daily System

I got an email the other day from Pottery Barn about a sale on their home office organizing goods & realized that the picture in the email was of their Daily System, which my mom just recently purchased for her newly redesigned home office! It is a really cool system because it allows you to customize it however you want... you get to pick the components that work best for you. Also, it comes in white, espresso and black so its sure to match any space!

Here are a few pictures of my moms Daily System...wish I could afford one! :)

She chose the linen pinboard, magnetic calendar, 2 corkboards, office organizer, and letter bin. I think it looks really good & oooh the joy of being so organized!

Here are a few pictures from Pottery Barn's website where you can see all the different components & color options. If you'd like to see the prices (which are now on sale!) click here.

PS...more on my mom's new home office later -- she's done an amazing job decorating it & I can't wait to show off her skills!

Happy weekend!!

Our Home: Living-Dining Room Redo

Another post in the Our Home series... the redo of our living-dining room combo space! This room is immediately to your left when you walk in our front door... the portion of the room in the front (where the bay windows are) is our "living room" while the area in the back (leading to the kitchen) is our "dining room".
The main changes we did in this space were redoing the floors, getting rid of the chair rail along the back wall, adding fresh new paint, and changing out the light fixture in the dining room area. And of course we also added lotsa furniture, some lamps, and other things you shall see in a sec!

Our wine bar is one of my favorite things in our casa. It is perfect for such a big wall & holds all of our bar-related wedding gifts! Seeing as we had a stock the bar shower, it is quite necessary! I also love that it is a perfect home for our many cookbooks. :) Now if only I got them down more often to actually cook something...whatevs..overrated..

We found our dining room chairs at a garage sale for about $35 total. My dad shined them up a bit & my mom and I recovered them with some brown & creme printed fabric. The table is from a very classy establishment.. I'm pretty sure its called "Furniture". It is located behind a hamburger joint in Lake Highlands and sells cheeeap furniture that is pretty decent!

Canton Finds: Shutters (plus DIY idea!)

I am loving shutters these days... Thats sort of a strange thing to say, but I just love how people are taking old shutters...big or small, shiny or rustic...and are turning them into fun new crafty DIY decor!
Here are some shutters my mom & I saw at Canton last month... so many sizes & colors! And these were found in the outdoor "flea market" section, so I'm sure they were super cheap.

DIY shutters,canton trade days,oh louise blog,shutters photo holder,shutter picture holder,shutter mail

Luckily my mother-in-law gave me a few of her old shutters when cleaning out her garage, so I didn't have to buy any! I simply spray painted some small shutters bright yellow & nailed them to the wall... In my opinion you can do the shutters with or without pictures or prints. Check out the DIY instructions that I guest-blogged over at Vintage Indie!

And here are some other cute DIY shutters I found online... some hold photos and others are used to hold mail - super cute idea!
